Resources for Seniors

There are many programs geared to the interests and needs of seniors. Many are serviced by volunteers and all the organizations are always looking for new volunteers. These programs are here to meet some of the needs of seniors.

Senior Transportation Options

  • Help to Doctor’s appointments and grocery shopping; Senior Connection provides volunteers to drive seniors and seeks volunteers to help in providing this service. 301 962 0820

  • For non-medical transportation for seniors to grocery shopping, airports, events and dialysis, Driving Moms & Dads 240 223-2418
  • For frail seniors and people with disabilities such as wheel chair bound, Metro Access provides door to door transportation throughout the metropolitan area. 301 562 5360
  • Ride-On and Metro bus in Montgomery County is free for persons 65 or older with a valid Metro Senior ID Card or Medicare Card between the hours of 9:30 am and 3 pm. Monday through

Food for Seniors

  • Meals for disabled or frail adults are delivered Monday through Friday by the Rockville Meals on Wheels program. Two meals are provided a hot and a cold meal. 301 340 1559

Recreation, Exercise, Education , and helpful services

Holiday Park Senior Center 3950 Ferrara Ave Wheaton, offers lectures, exercise programs, social dancing, lunches, card games, and trips. Monday to Friday. 240 777 4999

Potomac Community Recreation Center 11315 Falls Road offers exercise programs in conjunction with Suburban Hospital Heart health. Tai Chi exercise programs are available Monday, Wednesday & Fridays. Yoga exercise programs are also available. Senior Programs and lunches are offered on Tuesday 10 to 2 and Friday 10 to 1. 240 777 6960

Rockville Senior Center offers classes, exercise room, health screening. 240 314 8800.

Senior Education Courses are offered by Oasis housed in Macy’s Home store in Montgomery Mall 301 469 6800 ext. 211

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute affiliated with American University offers a program taught by seniors 202 895 4860

Evergreen Society -John Hopkins University offers a similar program 301 294 7058

Montgomery College offers a broad range of courses with special admission for seniors age 60 or older The Lifelong learning Institute # is 301 353 7869

Computer courses are offered by public libraries and Seniornet computer training centers including the Bethesda Vital Living Center. 240 395 0916

Health and Wellness programs are offered by Holy Cross senior source including exercises lectures, and screenings. 301 754 8800
